In 1884, when the first Chilean Alpaca were cared the United States, non existia an association, simply individual breeders interested in the alpaca. As the time passed these proprietors and individual Alpaca breeders began to discuss the necessity to have an organization dedicated to the upbringing of the Alpaca. These conversations took to the meeting of 38 people in Shanty Creek Lodge in Bellaire, Michigan June 17 1988. In the meeting it is spoken of creating an association with statutes and an association contract. In October of 1988 the statutes were approved and in September of 1990 the contract was presented for registration. At the present time this association is known as the Association of Proprietors and Breeders of Alpaca (AOBA, for their initials in English).

This works under a structure of committees led by a Meeting of Directory of 17 elect members. All the members of the Meeting and of the committees they are voluntary and they work ad ho- norem. Each member of the Meeting serves as link before the committees to assure the continuity of the organization. Some of these committees are of conferences, events, marketing, exhibition, fiber, affiliated, programs for young and the magazine Alpacas Magazíne, among other. The administrative routine tasks are in charge of a company of services hired for these effects. Since the members of the Meeting live distributed by all the United States, they communicate for teleconference and via Internet. The Meeting of Directory carries out monthly teleconferences since what is not easy its members they live in places whose schedules are different. As these meetings they usually last but of two hours, those in the east of the United States don't finish until the 11:00 pm. or midnight. Each committee has a similar problem, but definitively this system provides a d.

The formation of the association is based on several goals: a) To promote the knowledge on the part of the I publish and the appreciation of the members of the singular qualities of the alpaca, b) To educate the members on the care and the cria of the alpaca, c) To promote the growth of the industry of the alpaca, d) To foment the stable-foundation of these animals outside of their native earth promoting practices of upbringing and care based on the health del reba, solidez genetica y fenotipicas la produccion de fibra.

We achieve these goals through our publications, library and regional and national conferences. Our magazine Alpacas Magazine it is published four times to the year and our informative boletin, AOBA Hummer, six times a year. Any member can present articulos for his publication and often we also use articulos of people unaware to the association.
